Nov. 6, 2024– This day I first thank God for answered prayer. The election for President of the USA is complete – all in one night – unless a truckload of ballots are found in a ditch somewhere. ….. and I thank God for appointing the nominee’s, for the highest office, who most reflected the teaching of scripture – by a large majority.
Tuesday, 11/19/2024 – I did not get much accomplished recently. On starting I realized I best setup a folder with the files needed. … This post consists of the line leading to the families of Lydia Henderson, who married Ben Thorpe, along with some interesting history I found. The history involved scanning and converting pages from the book, Sketches of Thomas White, his Children and Grandchildren. If you find the pages will not download properly, I will try to convert to your liking?
This first file is the “corrected” duplicate of a previous file, which states properly that Eliza Thorpe, not Eliza Henderson, is the spouse of J B Thornton (my grandparents). As I recall a second page has the same error and should be corrected? That page shows the children and grandchildren of S. Watson and Mary Gash Thornton. …….. “Oh this incompetent work force, I suppose I must find qualified help!”

This entry might be a duplicate also? It is the line of Edwin and Eliza White Henderson to the children in the line of Mary Frances Henderson, b. Nov. 22,1849. She was the sixth child of Edwin & Eliza Henderson. She married John Andrew Stickel , near Greenfield April 9, 1879.
Due to an unintentional omission by my staff, the obituary of Lydia Thorpe Henderson went missing from Post #4. Rather than learning how to make an edit to #4, the “staff” presents it here.

Suggestion: Do, please, consider entering the obituaries of your families on this blog. A great deal of family history is enshrined in a few paragraphs, and can easily be passed to the next generation(s). What’s more, I, or my staff, might wish to visit the burial site of your family members some day?
This history of Martin Thorpe popped up while looking for Lydia’s obituary.

This completes the planned sharing of data for the “Lost Burial Site”. Should I find other applicable files or pictures overlooked by my staff, I will, as God permits, add the same.

It is the work of Luther Prentice Allen that most, if not all, of my “Henderson” history originates. His books were made possible by the input of prior generations. Several of his mother’s (Caroline Henderson Allen) siblings sent snippets of family life as children of the pioneers, James and Mary Henderson. … But first is the “short sketch” written by his uncle Thomas Henderson, titled Trip From Ohio.

The next entry in L P Allen’s book are the pages titled Greene County Life as recorded by the author himself.

As you see the next offering is from L P Allen’s aunt Amy A Henderson Robinson. Amy b. 1822 is the 9th child born to James, the pioneer, and Mary Henderson.

Next, the author speaks to his mother’s life as the firstborn of the James and Mary Henderson. ………… “On another post, I (Sam Jr) spoke of “slaves accompanying Wm Williams to Greene County”. I had not given thought to when they were freed, but L P Allen explains in this chapter that “they were freed upon entering the State of Illinois”. I missed that part of history, as well, my staff must have missed it also?”

Now he enters the memo from his aunt Hope, 2nd born (1810) in the pioneer family, married Amos Prentice.

Nathaniel Henderson is next quoted in the Sketches booklet. Born (1811) 3rd in the family, he married in 1833 to Martha Bacon. …………………………… “Whoop’s Nathaniel has not been digitized as yet. Will enter him and others later in an additional post, as God permits.”
